I believe that with the introduction of trellis, QlikTech screwed the animated feature.

See Examples -> Online Sales -> "Product" sheet -> "Margin movements" chart behaviour in 8.5 vs 9.0

It wasn't enough that you cannot select bubbles directly into the chart if it's animated (but you have tooltip available, so the capability exists), but now the legend shows nothing or shows the second dimension label with the first dimension values in it !!!

Why can't we receive a bug-free version? With every new version, the same story: lot of bugs. Test the damn thing before release.

I reported a small bug 2 years ago, it's still there: if you have a lot of expressions in a chart, let's say 30-40, if you right-click the 20-th expression or the 26-th..., the contextual menu is shown elsewhere on the screen, not next to the mouse pointer.

FIX IT!!! Customers pays you money for maintenance and upgrades.

... or USE THIS GREAT COMMUNITY as beta-testers before release.

Granted, the bugs are annoying, and I can empathize with your frustration. I would even go so far as to suggest that QlikView is one of the buggier pieces of software that I use on a regular basis. But have you worked in software development? There's basically no such thing as "a bug-free version" of ANY complicated software. Developers have to balance the need for additional features with the need to not introduce new bugs with the need to fix old bugs. Sometimes new features come first.

You can also balance these things for yourself as a user of the software. If you're more concerned with having as few bugs as possible rather than using the new features, then wait for new versions to stabilize. Don't jump right to the latest version just because it's available. At our shop, we're looking at version 9, but waiting for it to stabilize before officially upgrading. There's a patch coming that should address some of our concerns, but again, we'll be evaluating it before upgrading. I expect it will still be another couple of months before we're on version 9.

I agree with you lucian, when 8.0 came out in it's "stable" release, i used 7.52 for a while, because of the same problem. As John said, with a new release comes the evaluation time, to test the models in the new version, then if everything looks fine check the new features.

Maybe we can ask to re-open the Report Bug area, and don't close it still QV 10 shows up, so we can track the reported bugs. About this, my experience in the v9 Beta stage was good, every bug i reported was answered.

QlikView is a great software, but if all of us help QA, it will be better.

I really love QlikView!

But indeed there are some improvements I would like to have:

Please publish a list of known bugs (if not possible to all of the community-members here, than only to partners and customers)
Please post a list of bugs fixed in a specific version
(if possible) a roadmap with ideas for upcoming versions would be nice!

Another point would be to have an open list for new features & improvements, but for me it is clear that QlikTech can not do that because this would pass all the nice ideas directly to competitors ...

I hope, that somebody from QlikTech is reading this ...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a QlikView addicted. I left my IT Manager job for QlikView. I know this is THE FUTURE!

BI is the ELITE of economical software. We present ourselves as PROFFESIONALS that brings VALUE to customers. Instead we present bugs... over and over again. This is very bad for QlikView image, worse than delaying a release.

I am basically a software developer for more than 10 years. Trust me, I know there's no software bug-free. But those are not undiscovered bugs, that occure only in special situations, hidden deep in the code. This is LACK OF FUNCTIONALITY that slaps you in the face.

Should I remind the poor documentation? QlikView Automation Reference pdf has 24 pages, from which 6 pages are titles!!!

Yeah, I'm not very impressed with the documentation either. The reference manual is OK, but the automation reference is a bit of a joke. I believe they intend for you to use the API guide application instead, but it's not very intuitive, at least for me. I can navigate it now, but it took me quite a while to figure out how to use it. Documentation has never been a big need of mine, though. The help text and the API guide and examples have been plenty. I do a lot of learning through trial and error. Learning styles differ, of course.

In our shop, we definitely put much more focus on avoiding bugs than on getting new features out unless those features are critical. Like you, I would prefer if QlikView had more that sort of focus. It does seem to me that the bugs are worse for their image than delaying a release.

In general, I love QlikView. But I do have some issues with it, reliability being one of them.

Does anyone know when the next 9.x version is coming out? We upgraded to 9.0 then rolled back to 8.5 due to all the bugs. I'm assuming the first .x version will have most of them fixed.

I've been testing 9.0 SR1 and it is fantastic! It is everything the intial release of 9.0 should've been.

Is just can confirm your oppinion; I have now been testing QV SR 1 for one week and there are really just a few bugs left ...
