Number Format in Ajax

A date is formatted weird when viewed in AJAX. I have a Calendar Object that reads from a field called myDate, and when viewed in AJAX, the date here is displayed as an integer instead of the format mm/dd/yyyy.

To display the date in the proper format, I have set the number format to 'Date' by doing this:

Go to Calendar Object's Properties> Go to Number Tab > Check Override Document settings > select 'Date'.

This works great when viewd in the QV plugin. However, I don't understand why ajax will display 3/12/2012 as 40970 instead. The dropdown menu for this field will display dates properly as mm/ddyyyy, but the selected date value always shows as an integer instead.

Is this simply the limitation of ajax?

What can be done to fix this?
