Interestingly enough - there is a setting in User Preferences called "Clipboard zoom" that works well when the image is being copied into clipboard, but doesn't seem to do much when the image is saved into a file...

appreciate your thoughts...

Hi Oleg - this may be related to an issue which I am experiencing when printing a report to PDF.

The PDF I was creating was really slow when opened in Adobe Reader and I have discovered it is due to the gridlines for axis option being selected for the chart object included in the report. A PDF containing a chart with no gridlines loads very quickly and has no issues with scrolling/zooming within the document.

But it is the opposite when the chart object has gridlines (which all of mine do) - you can see the gridlines being rendered when I open the PDF. Also interesting to note that the PDF file size is also 10 times larger than the PDF doc with the chart with no gridlines.

I have asked QlikTech Support for something similar to yourself - how to stop the graphics being exported with such high quality or maybe not as a vector-based graphic (which it kind of looks like it is).

interesting behavior, with the grid lines... My problem is quite the opposite - my client is exporting a chart into an image file, and they would like to increase the quality of the image...

Maybe I should add grid lines and that would cause a higher resolution image?

Adding gridlines does not improve quality when exporting as an image.

But exported images on the whole are much worse in quality than the PDF print quality. Interesting but doubt there is a fix for it.

FYI - QlikTech have confirmed my PDF Grid problem as a bug.

I understand this is old post, however I am having same problem. The quality of the image is not good and it is pixalated after moving the objects to Powerpoint. Is there any setting to increase the resolution?

Hi Deepak, OK, let me know if you find anything. It would be much appreciated. I can't stand staring at these low quality images and the high res alternative I found (unchecking the postscript box or something like that) makes the files ~2 MB per page, which is too big for practical use, unfortunately.

Oleg,

It was great to see you in San Francisco. I am trying to solve the same problem you were 5 years ago, however I am trying to use Nprinting to import images to Powerpoint. Surely Qlik has resolved this poor quality image on export issue by now. Are you aware of any fixes or workarounds? I saw Barry's blog about using Paste Special and using bitmap output, but that is not a practical solution for me. I have 53 objects in Qlik that I am inporting as images to PowerPoint Template through Nprinting and it is only importing the less than desirable fuzzy output. Any updates on this post?

since this 5-year old post, I wasn't dealing with image exports too much... Have you tried NPrinting support? They seem to be fairly responsive and helpful. I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine they must have a better solution...

I understand that thread is more related to exporting a sheet image and i'm trying to explain how i ended exporting image of charts.

The issue was about the quality of the resulting image and i was not able to find clear informations about dealing with that.

Context

I got a classic PDF generation and mail distribution (no publisher, all on QVS scheduler, QV Desktop + 1 named licence on serv for macros, QV 11.00 SR1 2012 (you are not alone to cry...)).

Users (mainly pdf reports users) wanted to be able to exploit charts for other uses, like presentation etc... Depending their needs and their IT knowledge, i ended with providing a link in the mail to a shared folder where charts are exported.

Problem

I want to be able to export at a better quality (more pixel) than the original Rect of my chart.

-> searching was a pain, lot of outdated docs, matching case are not solved etc....

Workaround

1st idea: linked object to hidden sheet with custom sizing.

2nd : Export chart to file, create chart from file, customize new chart (rect size,font size,title size,bkg opacity, ..), export to img, close object

3rd: Discovered the "clipboard zoom" reading this post

Conclusion

It's working : I got chart that is 450*300px in .qvw and exported png in 900*600px or whatever you want.

Exporting to Bitmap obviously can't handle bkg opacity independantly of the format (png,jpeg) wanted because the container is still bitmap. In that cas the BkgAlpha 0 is to obtain a white background.

Might cost a lot in time as you might want specifics settings depending the chart, or you might find generic transformation according to your needs. At that point i have not enough experience, i implemented it only for POC, implementing it in production might raises others issues.

If transparency background is needed; dont deal with ExportBitmapToFile.

1: use exporttoclipboard, paste special in an Office App (word,ppt,..),then vbscript to save img to png from office app (In my setup, that would require Office app on my QVS serv, i don't want that).

2: use exporttoclipboard, add magic to handle the img with background opacity 0 and save it into a file without office app.

(i might search that magic)

Workaround of workaround : teach users how to use zoom in pdf + snipping tool for their needs of objects
