Has anyone found a way to do a <url> in a table box? Not a chart table or a chart pivot table but a table box.

We want it in the table box and not have to select a line and press a button. Selecting a line would then be making a selection that the use would then have to back out or reverse, would it not?

Then I am afraid you would have to use Straight Table instead of Table box. Why you can't to Straight table? You can always hide expressions, dummy ones, if needed.

Currently we have 40 columns and we expect to grow to 40-60 that seems quite large for calculation when when say 50,000 rows are displayed, we turn off the display of the chart counts above 50,000...

Additionally, let's say the url is a document link and my dimensions are Entity and Rating.

Entity A has 10 distinct document all with a rating of Pass. What will display in the straight table? Will there be 10 lines or just one line for Entity A, Rating Pass and the expression field will have nothing

There should be 10 distinct rows to display.

You could just put Entity and Rating in the dimension and URL in the expression. Also if needed you could put a dummy expression, like 1, and hide it – this is just to make every line visible.

Why should I have to put a dummy expression. The system should support the <url> in a table box and none of this workaround stuff would be necessary.

You may not have to put dummy expression. The URL in the expression should be sufficient depending what and how your dimensions are.

If you place some sample data and expected results, I am sure someone can get you a quick sample file.

This is example. When this is put in a straight table with Entity and Rating as Dimension -- and Document as Expression.

Result is

Entity Rating Document {url}

A Pass

There is nothing in the Document field

Well, Textbox is working as designed – this is the answer we would get from QlikTech. It’s like you cannot place calculated fields in a TableBox. If you are ok now, could you mark the thread answered?

The field I am placing in the table box is a fully calculated string already prior to be loading into QlikView, there is no expression to be done on it. It has the value of "documentxyz<url>url address" already built when loaded. So the table box would not be doing a calculated expression. it would be a column that should have the option of displaying as a link.

Well I did not say your issue is about calculated expressions. I was just giving another example of what TableBox cannot do, and it’s as designed.

This is a wrong expectation. Notice that it is not enough to create a "url-type" expression, you also must use "link" representation, which is not possible in a table box.

In general, I don't see a reason to use table boxes at all in the production applications. Straight tables are more flexible - and faster at the same time.
The only use of a table box is during the development phase, when you want to see what exactly is loaded in a logical table.

We have the <url> column in a straight table now. We have 20 columns of data that are all conditional. When we display any columns that have a null value the underline under the link turns off. What causes this?

I have a pretty compelling reason to include a URL 'link' representation in the table box. It is this:

I have about 60 columns of data that I'd like to show the user along with a link on each line to several related PDFs. I could use a straight table with 60 dimensions and the URLs as expressions however, I can't control the width of the dimension in a straight table, so my 60 columns stretch off to the right about 6,000 pixels. This can't be altered. So it is better to use a table box, but then I'm unable to show the URLs as links. It's a conundrum.

A fair solution would be to allow a URL in the table box or to allow the user to control the width of a straight table.

The problem with all this is the if you use a straight table you can't control the width of the table. If you have 60 dimension columns and the URL in the expression column, the object width will be as wide as all the columns. Even if you display a modest 75 pixels per column you'll have an object width of about 4500 pixels. And you can't shrink it.

You can create a straight table with the full length horizontal scrollbar. Search the forum for solutions, I'm sure there are multiple.

You can't control the width of the Dimension portion. But if you code the Dim values as expressions, you can use a scroll bar, yes?
