QV CONNECT TO MS ANALYSIS SERVICES

Hello !

I wish to connect to our MS analysis services from QV . Would somebody guide me how to achieve the same .

I tried to do the same but though 'test connection' works successfully it is unable to create the data source (using the OLE DB)

I am also getting same problem . Able to connect cube , but not able to fetch data into Qilkview.

I am trying few MDX in load script to extract data , but not sure wheather its correct approach or not.

Please let me know , if you get answer apart from this forum .

Hi,

I got the same status when connecting to MS SQL via OLE DB.

Try ODBC, i am using it with no problems.

but what will be connectin string in that case ?

And u are using MDX whilke accessing in qilkview ?

Hi,

I am connecting just to the database, I am building new "OLAP cube" in QV(if you have the DWH built properly, it's not much work I think), so I don't know, if mdx is supported in QV.

To connect to MSSQL use New ODBC Source - SQL Server (you have to login using windows authentication, otherwise it would fail) .

Thanks for the info. While creating the ODBC we need to select Sql sever - pl confirm . Also you mentioned u are creating OLAP cube in QV - can u explain pleease (is it the qvd files.)

Hi Tapas,

Sorry for late answer. Yes, you choose SQL Server in New ODBC Source, then you have to choose Windows authentication (with SQL server authentication, it doesn't work).

You are building the cube by connecting fact table to dimension tables (if you need snowflake scheme, you can connect dimension tables and then use Qlikview qroups, then the illusion of OLAP is perfect).

Only risk is correct interpretation of aggregated numbers.

On the png attached - f_pom_prijmy, f_pom_vydaje, t_faktury, f_kontrakty are facts tables, the rest are dimension.

This is exact copy of prepared tables (structure prepared on SSID), I've designed in SQL Server, and then analyzed in Analysis Services.

You can load the data from SQL server or another source. Qvd files are just place, where you can store one qlikview table for later usage.

Dear Tapas,

Were you successful using MSAS cubes in QV?

I get connected to the MSAS server, but cannot see any tables or views on clicking "Select".

Hi,

If you want to connect to an Analysis Service cube you need to enable adhoc distributed queries (see the following link for more information):

Once you have set that up an MDX query similar to the following should work fine:

SQL SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET
('MSOLAP.3',
'Provide=MSOLAP.3;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=MyServer;Initial Catalog=Adventure Works DW;',
'SELECT {[Measures].[Sales Amount]} ON COLUMNS, {[Product].[Product].Members} ON ROWS FROM [Adventure Works]'
);
