Set a max date variable

Hi everyone,

I am interested in setting a variable that stores the latest date from a field that I have in my data (called 'DATE'). I have tried this:

date(max(DATE), 'MM/DD/YYYY')

but that only is giving me the max date of the current selection. How can I alter this so it gives me the max date stored in the field regardless of selection?

date(max({1}DATE), 'MM/DD/YYYY')
