Hi,

You can create alternate state by doing the following

Settings->Document Properties->General-> Click on Altenate States button ->Add and give Alternate State name.

And adding 1 alternate state in document properties will add an additional drop down select bar in the General tab of most of your sheet objects.

Here you can set the existing alternate state with regard to the object, but you can also create a new alternate state on the fly.
