Loading Data from Password Protected Excel Documents

I'm trying to find a tidy way of loading Data from an Excel protected workbook. I've seen the solution in the link below but cannot get this to work?

load a Password protected Excel File to QlikView

Ive checked command line options and had a play with vba code, opening a documentand trying to save a temp unprotected version but

a) I cannot get it to work

b) want to avoid any vba as it causes difficulties for support?

I am using QV 11.2 SR4 and Excel 2013 on windows 8 (IE 10)

Any ideas?

Hi,

if you can get the dpt. to go along with this, just

- unprotect the workbook as a whole

- protect the individual sheets instead

=> QlikView will then read the file without problems.

DataNibbler - This works a treat. Need to do this in conjunction with DataNibblers Answer. (Note there may be a security issue linking to a hidden workbook sheet from another workbook)

Here is what you do in Excel 2003: (variations also work for 2007,10,13)

In your sheet of interest, go to Format->Sheet->Hide and hide your sheet.
Go to Tools->Protection->Protect Workbook, make sure Structure is selected, and enter your password of choice.

Once this is done, the sheet is hidden and cannot be unhidden without the password. Make sense?

(Given Excel's backward compatibility, I'm sure you can do this in 2007)

hiding a sheet was not an option in my instance (the dpt. needs the Excel file themselves), but it sure is a good option.

Does VBA Code not work? But it did help me recover the forgotten Excel password. Or you should try copying and pasting an Excel worksheet or uploading it to a Google Sheet to unprotect Excel.
