Clear and lock same field on buttons

I have 2 buttons that need to clear an already selected value. I think this is selected by a trigger although i'm struggling to find it.

So what I need to do is clear the value when you click on either button, but once you make the selection on the value in a list box it should not clear when clicking the other text box. Is this even possible? Please help as I created a Clear field trigger but when I select on list box and move to the other button it clears.

why two buttons for clear? Why are you clicking the button after making selections in list box? Is there any other triggers there other than clear?

Thank you for the response. I just realised that this is actually not the best way to do it since I'm clearing and locking the same field. Will close the thread.
