Hello.

We have been having issues with users opening charts that contain large volumes of data without making any drill down selections. We suspect this may be causing slowdowns on our server. We have recently upgraded to QV9 service pack 4.

Changing the Memory Size Limit works. Adjusting this value allows me to limit the size of the chart. The Maximum Number of Cells options does not seem to limit the chart. Even if I set the value to 1, I can generate a chart with thousands of cells.

Is there an issue with the Maximum Number of Cells function?

Thanks,

John.

While not answering your question, have you considered setting a Calculation Condition on the Chart as a solution?

-Rob

If you don't want to make use of memory limits you can check "Ignore Calculation Limits" in the "User Preferences" on the "Objects" tab.

Hi Johan.

What I want to do is limit the number of cells generated in a specific chart. I deselect the 'Ignore Calculation Limits' in the User Preferences. Then go into the chart's memory settings and set the 'Maximum Number of Cells' value. Even if I set the value to a low number such as 100 for testing, the chart still generates with thousands of cells.

This is not a setting I've tried before -- I usually use a Calculation Condition. But I just tested it on QV9 SR4 with a pivot table and setting the Max Cells value to a low number did give me the expected "Allocated memory exceeded" message -- but only for a Pivot table. It seemed to have no effect on a Straight Table or a TableBox.

-Rob
