Using Google Maps with QlikView

I followed the instructions on this whitepaper to include Google Maps in my document and it works http://global.qlik.com/uploadedfiles/Whitepapers/whitepaper_how_qliktech_uses_qlikview_google_maps.pdf.

My question is I seem to be having a problem getting the latitude/longitude coordinates to center correctly on the map. I'm using version 8.5 so I have to overlay the chart on the map, which I've done without much difficulty. The problem seems to be to get the chart to center correctly on the map. I've attached a simple example of what I'm getting. Has anyone used the whitepaper example to implement Google Maps?

I have a feeling that everything will work if you uncheck "Forced 0" checkboxes for both X and Y on the Axis Tab of your chart.

Thanks Oleg. That seemed to help with placing the point in the correct position relative to the map, once I lined them up (see attached). My other question is this. is there a way to remove the X and Y axis lines that are on the righthand side and bottom of the chart?

Yes. On the "Style" tab, select "Plot Area Background Style" = "Frame", and on the "Colors" tab - set "Plot Area Border" to have width 0. This will remove the frame.

Maybe you could be interested. I created an app to display the relation between "Customer" & "Customer Ship to" as a flow with an arrow.

Of course Rob,i have just to reduce the database which give the number of people who lives in a city & works in another city (1,2 M of couples).

Here we go Rob

I reduced the app limited with flow > 50 and also modifed the original structure :

- origin : city where people live

- destination : city where people work

- number of commuters

I transformed this structure to use QV with a duplication of line.

I see a lot of improvement but I don't know if it's possible with QV :

- get different size of the arrow depending of the value of the flow

- give different color for each origin, ...

The source is from INSEE (french census bureau, data are real & free)

Hate to keep bugging but do you know if there's anyway to make the map respond to user interaction? In otherwords give the user the ability to zoom in or out or pan around the displayed map?

Hi,

I think you have to develop some macro using the GoogleMaps Api. I' m not a specialist in development and I never seen in QV some advanced add on from Google Maps (The Pan, The zoom, access to streetview, ...). I'm trying now in France to associate some company to link QlikView with GoogleMaps specialist. All the improvement we can done will be a great step.

I've examined the map with the flow areas and find it very creative. Can you explain the data elements of your flow file?

Is it:

ValFlux - outbound volume

IdFlux - Inbound volume

DC is the locations

What are the DepO, DepD & Dir?

Yep, if i remember well

Each flow as an id = IdFlux

Each flow is display in 2 rows :

- first is the origin of the flow

- second is the destination

So field Dir = 'O' is for the origin and Dir='D' is for the destination

Dc is the Id location for french cities. So if Dir = 'O' DC = the city where people live, if Dir = 'D' then DC = the city where people work

Then ValFlux is the value of flow = number of people who live in a city and work in another city.

This structure seems tricky but it was built just to display the arrow in the map. I didn't find out other way.

My initial data structure was one row by flow (so City origin, City destination, Flow)

To end, the fields DepO & DepD are the id of french "departement" ( The 2 first digits of DC). DepO for origin, DepD for destination. Departement is a set of cities

I used this fields to filter the data. For example, If i want to display where people living in the departement = 75 are working, if select '75" in a listbox.

This was a great help. Thanks. I modified it slightly to show multiple legs in a sequence. Still need to do some work on getting the data to flow, but its easier due to your assistance.
