Access denied to this Qlik view document

Hi,

When I try to open an QVW in personal edition, it throws pop-up windows that says "Access denied to this Qlik view document"

But all other QVW's, I am able to open.

Does anyone has any idea?

The document you opened might be having security implemented. so you are unable to open it.

Please ask the developer to add your username to the security part, to access the document.

Does the dashboard is hosted in Server? if so they might have added your functional ID in the script.

If it is a local copy of your developer then you cant open it without his/her credentials.

I didn't get that.

The QVW is hosted on the server. I have access to folder where the qvw sits on.

How do I and where do I see my functional ID, I am unable to open the qvw hence no visibility to the script.

Folder access is different, if your application is hosted in Qlikview server, the UserID which is used to create task or install Qlikview is the functional id.

That ID might have access to the Dashboard.

But not sure whether your developer added that ID to the Security part.

I tried to open using the ID that Qlikview service service runs on.

But this time I get an different error message "This was created using different user....... continue....

I clicked continue but again Access Denied error.

Try to Apply License or Lease the License from the Server. So that the error would go.

Whether this application is reloading daily or schedule for reload in the server?

I hope no, you can't do. Login to the system with the credentials is the only way.

You can do that, but it won't make a difference. You need to lease a license to open a document created by another user. QlikView Desktop PE won't be helpful here.

You can try one of these things:

If you have the credentials of a user that has a Named Call, try to lease that Call. Start QV Desktop, select File->Open in Server, enter server address and select Alternate Identity on the right. Enter the username and click Connect.
If you have access to the server, check to see wether the service account has a Named Call assigned. If so, install QV Desktop on the server (a godsend in case of trouble) and lease that license to the new Desktop. You won't have to move back'n'forth any documents anymore.

The first option would work.

I am able to connect an open the qvw using the service acct but unable to open the script.

I think the problem is that acct don't have the named call. How do I add named call to this service acct?

You don't really need to open a document using Open in Server. It's just to lease the license. Open in Server will make your QV Desktop act as a Portal client and one of the many annoying side effects is that you cannot reload or access the script.

To check whether your license has been transferred to your running QV Desktop, check the Windows title bar ("Personal Edition" should have disappeared) or open the Start page and click "License Information".

Next, you should open the QVW file using File->Open. Otherwise you won 't be able to perform any development tasks.

May be I need to explain the situation.

My ID has license and I did the same what you explained long time ago and I am able to develop dashboards

What I am trying to do is, I am trying to open an qvw where another developer developed and he has hardcoded his ID and another service ID in the script, so that only those 2 can open the qvw. The developer is no longer working.

Now I have the another ID and its credentials.

What I am trying to do is as you mentioned, I am trying to open in server using Alternate Identity using the service ID just to lease the license. The "Personal Edition" is disappeared but still unable to open that qvw.

May be I need to add this ID to license from QEMC and then it might work.

So suggestion 2 is actually your best option. You don't need to install QV Desktop on the server, you can actually use your own QV Desktop but you'll need to (first assign a Named Call to the service account if it hasn't got any, and then) use the service account credentials to lease a license and open the QVW using that identity. On your own platform, that means logging in as the service account, which may complicate things a bit. That's why I suggested to install yQV Desktop on the server and continue from there.

If SA ADMIN permissions are restricted to two people, and the account of the original developer cannot be used, then the service account is the only key you've got to open the door.

Yes, the best way is, I will need to login to the server as the service acct and open the qvw provided the service acct has a license.

After running into this problem myself, I figured that this happens if you save a .qvw document after doing a Limited Load from the Debugger and saving the file before doing a full reload. I have not found a way to reopen the denied/locked file. Had to go to a backup copy.
