I forgot to add to my previous post that even though this logic works Qlikview seems to have an odd bug whereby some users cannot cut and paste into the inputbox even though the paste option is enabled. I have yet to determine why this is and if anyone has an answer I would be grateful for your input

I would like to allow users to select several parts without selecting them individually.

Is there a way to paste a list of parts from a spreadsheet, and have the selected parts limited to that list?

I don't want to include the spreadsheet data in the load statement, but allow users to due ad-hoc investigation easily.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

B

As a noob im trying to understand your question, so not sure if this is what you looking for

1) Determine the number of permutations of the individual parts and list that as a column field in your data, would act something like a bookmark but you will have a lot of permutations depending on the number of fields you want to list

2) Setup a whole bunch of bookmarks predefined by you, that you know your EU would want to use

The users have been given a list of part numbers from a supplier that need to be investigated. The qlikview documents allows the user to select individual part numbers and view information about the part, but they have over 200 parts. I would like to allow the users to simply cut and paste the part numbers into a textbox or something similar and have this restrict the data that is returned.

I have a data table that shows the part information the users wish to display, but there are millions or unique part numbers and selecting the part numbers one at a time is too time consuming.

Hopefully that is more clear,

B

I've seen this question asked and answered several times with different approaches. For example here's a couple:

http://community.qlik.com/message/72460

http://community.qlik.com/message/98480

http://community.qlik.com/qlikviews/1033

This is actually quite easy to achieve (in qlikview v10 - I cannot comment on previous versions) as the Select In field action on a button allows for a pipe-delimited list to be entered in the follow format:

(A|B|C)

You must include the parenthesis but if you create a button that references a variable, which is populated via an inputbox the desired cut and paste list logic can be implemented.

The only additional logic you must include in the button is to format the string that was entered - which will be in this format if pasted from Excel: A B C - into the format required by the select in field action

Hope this helps
