Way to reduce source document after distribution?

I believe I have a similar problem that Syam H. had in this thread Redundant Documents

The main dashboard that I am working on comes in at around 1.7GB fully loaded (overview of yearly data with ability to break down into daily values as needed). However, our UAT server only has 6 GB of free hard drive space. The document will fully reload, but I get the following errors on distribution. When I looked up these errors, it pointed to lack of disk space -- fair enough. Is there anything I can configure that would allow me to reduce the source document *after* the source document has loaded but before distribution (as I understand it's the temp file that gets moved to the published folder, not the source document). If I reduce the size of the source document before distribution, there should be enough file space available to complete the file copy.
