am getting syntax errore to find max month year sales and max month year -1 sales

Try this expression for max may be:

Max Month

=Sum({$<[Month Year]= {"$(=max([Month Year]))"}>}Sales)

Max Month - 1

=Sum({$<[Month Year]= {"$(=Max(AddMonths([Month Year], -1)))"}>}Sales)
