People often ask me why Qlikview over our Crystal reports, why is qlikview better? Why choose BI over reporting? Any good opinions, scenarios? Thanks

My thoughts would be that reports aren't designed to be that flexible, you have your parameters, you set them and run, then view the data. If you want to see a different angle you have to rerun the report, and what if its a long one? You'll be their a while, discovering issues, or outliers might take longer, whereas the BI app will let you see that much quicker, but does that really make it worth paying all this extra money for qlikview. Will it actually save that much time?

I guess its easier for executives too use that don't like viewing reports, but does that alone justify the purchase, it seems reporting would be better for internal use, but then again, if you want to create sales apps, you can't very well use reports can you? I guess there's reasons both ways...

A quick reply to that is; QlikView allows your audience to ask more questions in a more rapid way. Which you eluded to in your post. Also Qlikview is able to make ad-hoc reports and also do pixel perfect reporting using NPrinting module.

Now if a user only needs a standardized report and does not need much else than yes your right QlikView is hard to justify.

Hope that helps

Easy exercise that can help to quickly answer this question - ask QV and Crystal specialists to prepare the same report - you will see yourself that you will get valuable results in QlikView quicker than in Crystal. As experts before me mentioned - QV will allow your end users to be more flexible and basically start their analysis at any point, where Crystal will follow the more traditional approach. If your end users will ask about simple change - QV script will require less development than Crystal report.

QlikView is all about flexibility, decreasing development time and increasing productivity.
