      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Basically QV calculates distinct values for each field, than creates a bitmap representation for each value.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Then creates two kind of tables&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Symbol Tables (every distinct value and its bitmap representation)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Data Tables with "pointers" to Symbol tables&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Further reading: &lt;A href="https://community.qlik.com/qlik-blogpost/2848"&gt;Symbol Tables and Bit-Stuffed Pointers&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
