QDF and Personal Edition

Hi there,

I am currently starting to use QDF at work and all is going well.

I would like to experiment with QDF more at home but cannot open the Variable Editor document because

I only have the Personal Edition of QlikView desktop.

Are there any plans to make the variable editor available to be opened with a Personal Edition license ?

Thanks

Mark

Good question Mark - technically QDF concepts are to work with the source and user document directory structures on a QlikView Server / Publisher installation - so I don't see the reason as to be used with Personal edition alone. QDF practices are also really recommended for large deployments that need a method of managing QlikView applications. Personal edition is really to explore QlikView and develop apps for one's own need. Beyond that a license would need to be purchased. Please note that this restriction is not because of the QDF tools (Variable Editor) - it is built into the QlikView application (desktop) itself. If I created any simple QV with my personal editions or paid for edition, I can only share with other licenses QV individuals. I believe there is a limit on how many QVs can be opened from others before it prevents it all together, Hope this helps. I will mentioned Magnus Berg to chime in - if he sees fit.

Thanks for your question.

Thanks for your feedback Mark. I will check out if we could incorporate an embedded license into Variable Editor so it will open with Personal Edition.

Hi Again Mark,

please validate this version of Variable Editor that incorporates an embedded license.

If this works fine I will replace the deploy tool.

Cool!

Do you have any good or bad feedback on the implementation and environment?

The new Variable Editor is attached to this discussion.

Cheers

Thanks Magnus,

I did not see the attached when I was looking at the reply in my inbox.

So far everything is going well and I am just changing one document at a time to using QDF.

I love having a more standard way of deploying qlikview apps and being able to easily create separate projects whereas before we just had folders for qvw\qlikview loader documents in each environment (dev, test or live).

All our live documents should be changed to use QDF by the end of next week as I need to show another qlikview developer how to use QDF first.

Hope you have a great weekend and I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Magnus,

The updated version of the Variable Editor works great with the Personal Edition of QlikView.

So far I have just created some containers, test applications and shared variables and everything looks fine.

Thanks for the quick update.

Mark

Not applicable

Hi Mark, We are also willing to implement the QDF in our environment and can you please share the any documentation for start up.

Thanks ...
