Qlik Sense Hardware evaluation

Hi there, we were asked to evaluate which of the following two scenarios best fits for hosting Qlik Sense (v3):

Scenario #1

  • Processor: E3-1240V5 with 4 cores @ 3.5Ghz (not expandible)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • HDD: 2 HDD of at least 150 GB, 15k rpm, RAID 1

Scenario 2

  • Processor: E5-2620v4 with 8 cores @ 2.1Ghz (expandible)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • HDD: 2 HDD of at least 150 GB, 10k rpm, RAID 1

I would go for the second as more scalable and with more calculation power.

Do you agree?

That's a very difficult question. normal sizing is when you know applications size,  num concurent users and increase the data in the application for a period of time.

IHMO

the initial stages of the first server will be better because a higher frequency

but Xeon E5 2600 Famaly is the recommended processor. and this platform will be more scalable.

regarding the disk subsystem - click is not demanding of her speed. More important is the amount of RAM. The bigger, the better.

look to Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2643 v4 (20M Cache, 3.40 GHz) Спецификации

This CPU will be better for Qlik then 2620v4 and not particularly expensive

Thank you Alexander, we have already sized RAM based on users and application size.

The client, then, asked something more specific on the hardware.

I agree, RAM is way more critical than HDD.

Thanks
