A look into some of the new features of Qlik Cloud's new UI.

Qlik is ever evolving. In my last blog entry, I went over how users can update their tenants to the new UI and give a brand-new look to their interface. Today we’re going to go over the changes that have been brought to Qlik’s UI, and how users can take advantage of these changes.

One of the first changes that users will see when logging onto their new tenant is a change in menu location and appearance. Instead of being located on the right-hand side of the screen, users can now access this menu through the top left, which then reveals a collection of activity centers they can visit. From this menu, users can quickly jump into the different sides of Qlik Sense.

Insights will bring users to what was once the Qlik Cloud Analytics hubs, providing options for app and analytic content. Analytics allows customers to explore visualizations and create apps with their data. Data Integration will allow users to establish and view connections, create data projects and set up automations. Through Administration users have access to the different settings and permissions that govern their tenant.

An extremely helpful change to the UI is based around this waffle menu and the administration section of Qlik Cloud. No longer do users have to venture into series of different menus, one click exposes all the sections allowing users to quickly remedy their administrative need.

You’ll notice that this menu also extends into the sections themselves. Below we have a screenshot inside of an app in the analytics section of Qlik Cloud, by pressing the waffle menu in the left-hand corner, we’re given quick access to travel to the other sections once again. The stability of the waffle menu in the upper left-hand corner provides an achor point that can be used throughout your Qlik Cloud experience.

Another addition to the UI is ‘Recents’ which can be found at the bottom of the exposed waffle menu. Recents provides a view of your recently viewed content across activity centers. This means that it doesn’t matter if you were last working on a combination of apps or data projects, they can all be found here, ready for you to get back to work.

This concludes our tour of Qlik Cloud’s new UI. How do you think that Qlik Cloud’s can benefit you and your company? How can this change make you more productive?

I think at the level of visual perception the horizontal menu on the left is much better than the rectangle-shaped menu on the upper right. Good work!

I liked this new UI. Useful and I can navigate straight to what I need in any menu. Like, if I am in Administration>Settings and I need to go to Analytics > Catalog, I can do it one straight to the other, not having to hop page over page. That's good.

In our opinion showing both tabs "Insights" and "Analytics" to Analyzer users is horrible. Keep in mind, end-users are no IT specialists. They simply want to open their apps straight-forward and work with it. Moreover, we have very different ages (18 - 75 years old) and skill levels among our Analyzer users.

Our end-users don't understand the difference between both. I think that Qlik cannot feel into real life end-users and how confusing this can be for them, especially for elder people. Having two start pages is what people do not understand naturally and I don't see any added value two. Of course, evolutionary changes are be good and necessary. But it must always be self-explaining, so anybody can adapt to it quickly without having extensive release notes or documentation (end-user never read this, they have no time for that).

Redundancy between Insights and Analytics is very high, it's hard to spot the difference. If Analyzers can see both tabs anyway, why not packing it together in a single tab? For us it would only make sense if Analyzers only could see tab 'Insights'. We don't want them to create content, especially not automations! Right now they can simply click on + Create and create automations, which is totally wrong!

Furthermore the Qlik Logo has been disabled, before everybody used it to go back to the start page. Linking the top-left logo to the homepage is a common internet standard!

Now that it has been activated forcefully without any announcement before, it delivers us a lot of trouble. User acceptance is near zero and I believe no UAT testing took place with real-life endusers!

@p0cket0m

I prefer the new interface to the old one by some distance.

But I feel that some areas need more thought. Like having both Insight and Analytics. Why not combine these 2 into one option. Im unsure what Qliks thinking was here.

I would also like to see more moved to the left hand 'Assets' Pane. Like 'Insight Advisor' and 'Selections Tool'. This would keep all the various options in one place.

I rate a user interface by the number of clicks it takes to access features that I use constantly, so the new location of the Sheets menu is worse than before. Perhaps a keyboard shortcut would improve how quickly we can access this feature.

On the other hand, the new location for the Administrator option is much clearer and easier to find.

It possible to add 'Sheet' as an option now (besides Assets) In 'UI Settings'.

Another option is the VG new 'Navigation menu' chart
