There are some steps that have to been followed to quickly migrate NPrinting to a new environment without losing any data.

Note. Migrating Nprinting is not in the realm of Qlik Support. This is considered Professional Services engagement. How and When to Contact the Consulting Team?

Environment:

Qlik NPrinting any version

To migrate NPrinting to another server, you essentially need to create a backup of the repository, then you can install NPrinting on the new server and then simply restore the backup on the new server. So you will transfer all the information (Tasks, reports, users, connections etc...) from one environment to another.

  1. You can follow these tutorials to back up and restore the repository:

    Backing up Qlik NPrinting
Restoring Qlik NPrinting from a backup

Note that NPrinting versions on the new and the old machine must be the same, backups created with different versions are not always compatible.

  2. Do not forget to deactivate the license in the old environment, so you can apply it to the new server. The license can be deactivated in the Admin section, License management.

  3. You can use different domain users for the services in the new installation, but be sure that they satisfy all the requirement.
  4. After the migration and the restoration of the backup in the new server,  you need to add a new NPrinting Engine. See  Adding a Qlik NPrinting Engine
  5. After the migration, you may need to change the path in the connections, because the path to the files has probably changed. For Qlik Sense connections the Certificate will need to be re-exported from Qlik Sense and imported to the NPrinting server. Otherwise, the issue documented on the following articles may occur: NPrinting: "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden" for connection to QlikSense

Hello @giociva

The method to approach this depends on the depth of the Active Directory deployment with NPrinting. As such, we need to recommend reaching out to Professional Services and having them assist you in managing this migration end to end.

simple set of instructions for moving active directory domains with minimal complexity would follow this:

To prep:

You are likely to run into issues with Windows authentication when you log on for the first time after the repository restore. In case the domain changes, the Windows authentication will fail. So you'd need to create an Admin user that can log in with Email and Password before taking the backup on the old system so that you can log in on the new server.

Then:

  1. Stop the engines and Qlik NPrinting services
  2. Backup the Qlik NPrinting databases
  3. Remove the Qlik NPrinting engines and server
  4. Change the domain membership of each Qlik NPrinting server computer
  5. Reinstall the Qlik NPrinting engines and server
  6. Restore the Qlik NPrinting database
  7. Manually reinsert each domain mapping used for each user account

Though again: We need to highly recommend getting in touch with our professional services on this subject.

All the best,
Sonja
