How to Upgrade Qlik Sense from Nov 2024 to May 2025
HI team,
I have Qlik Sense server on which Nov 2024 Qlik sense is running. PosgresDB is unbundled and available at D:\program files\PostgresSQL\14.
Version of PostgresSQL is 14.8.
The Qlik Sense Repository database service is removed already and not present in services.
I need to upgrade Qlik Sense from Nov 2024 to May 2025 , Please guide me steps and things to take care?
Few queries from my side?
1. I see QPI May 2025 tool available on Qlik downloads, May I know do we need to use it in Upgrade of Qlik Sense or my server already has 14.8 version, no need to do anything with it?
2. what backup is must to restore the complete site i.e. repo dump etc?
3. In case in future I need to upgrade PostgresSQL14.8 to PostgresSQL 16, how to do it? any document is available ?
In my point of view, you only need to upgrade Qlik Sense without any special step. Regarding your questions: 1) You don't need to use QPI this time since the database is already unbundled. 2) To restore a complete Qlik Sense, you need to backup certificates, Repository db and Qlik Share folder (more info here: How To Take Backup And Restore Qlik Sense Enterpri... - Qlik Community - 1717548) or simply take a VM snapshot 3) You only need to download and install the newer PostgreSQL version, but please be aware in PostgreSQL 15.x and 16.x all permissions must be granted to qliksenserepository user on public schema
Please note that 14.8 version of PostgreSQL has some security issues, maybe you should update it to 14.18
1. When I run May 2025 setup file, will it ask about any step for upgrade or skip repo DB?
2. QPI is only work with unbundling? what if I need to upgrade from 14.8 to 14.18? I read somewhere QPI doesn't work with major release like from 14.x to to 16.x but works within 14x to 14x1
3. "You only need to download and install the newer PostgreSQL version" can you please share any Qlik article or tutorial video ? How to install PostgresDB 16 or 17, and connect Qlik Sense with it and disconnect with 14x PostgresDB?
4. I have Nov 2024 version on another server which has PostgresDB 14.8 bundled. Can I use May 2025 QPI to unbundle PostgresDB?
