When migrating from NPrinting to Qlik Cloud, existing Excel report templates can be reused with the Tabular Report feature through the Qlik Add-in for Microsoft Excel. This article walks through the correct steps to adapt and connect an NPrinting Excel template to a Qlik Cloud app when you don’t have access to the “Export Qlik Cloud Reports” option in Nprinting.
PrerequisitesThe template can be downloaded directly from the Reports section in NPrinting. Use the Export > Download option. You may optionally set a password for the exported file if required by your organization.
Once downloaded, unzip the file and save the template to a location that is easy to find and access later.
Step 2 — Ensure the Qlik Add-in is Installed and Connect to Your AppMake sure the Qlik Add-in is already installed in the version of Microsoft Excel you intend to use.
When you open the template, you will see the field names as they were defined in the NPrinting Designer Console.
Using the Add-in panel, connect to the appropriate Space and App that correspond to this report.
Step 3 — Locate the Chart Sources in Your Qlik Cloud App
Open your Qlik Cloud app and identify the chart objects that contain the fields used in the report template. For each relevant object, note:
To find it, you can right click in the table/Chart > Share > Embed:
In the next window, you will see info about this chart, including the Object ID:
You will need the Object ID in the next step to match the correct table in the Add-in console.
Step 4 — Add the Table to the Add-in Console (Without Inserting Fields)
In the Qlik Add-in console, locate the table or chart that matches the Object ID identified in Step 3.
Add this table or chart to the console.
Important: Do not insert any fields from the console into the template. Since the field names are already present in the template (from the original NPrinting layout), the table only needs to be added to the console to establish the field mapping. The Add-in will use the existing field references in the template cells automatically, as long as the corresponding table is active in the console.
Step 5 — Preview and Validate the ReportRun a preview from the Qlik Add-in panel to check that all fields are returning data correctly. Verify that each mapped cell is populated as expected and refine the formatting if necessary before distributing or scheduling the report.
