Command Center
I've spent several months working on an application I called "ITIL Service Intelligence." Because naturally I built the application to be expandable to any ITSM solutions I may work with in the future as well, and currently it pulls my ServiceNow data.
One thing for sure, I wasn't going to bury myself in my data cathedral for that long just writing script code and working on set analysis expressions and not have it shine. So, I had to build some visualization extensions for Qlik Sense that really let all of that hard work stand out.
I know what you are thinking "Hey we need to load our ITSM data too." "We need an awesome command center." "We need super cool visualizations that draw attention."
Well stinks to be you. I've got mine done. That's all that matters to me, and hey you started dreaming before we even finished talking about mine yet.
I constructed a 3 part data pipeline. Just like I always do. The first step is to load the data from the ITSM (in my case ServiceNow) in a raw form. It automatically handles the incremental loads from me. So each type the reload is done it only needs to read the data that changed since the previous extraction. I always implement a transformation step anyway, but in this case I actually called it conform. Because I wasn't just adding things for performance and just weaving in a master calendar I was actually conforming the ServiceNow fields names to a common ITIL data model.
If you are thinking "Dalton you could have taken a short cut and just skipped that step" then you simply don't know me very well. I don't "shortcut" things when it comes to data. After all that lights out Command Center I was going to build deserved longevity. It reads in the ITIL common data model so that it can be used with data from any (or multiple) ITSM source systems.
Governance
If I told you that I just slapped everything together and it works great. You would probably applaud that at least it works.
But if I told you that I didn't just slap it together, I built it with governance from the ground up: Comments in line, commented metadata embedded in the data model, fully populated business glossary with proper relationships and links to master dimensions and master measures your jaw might drop in disbelief and start drooling.
