Qlik Sense from On-prem to Private Cloud

Hello, In our organization, we are currently utilizing the Qlik Sense On-premises environment, where our server is hosted in a data center. They are now planning to transition our data center to a private cloud.

As a result, the relevant team has requested all necessary information, such as port openings and license connectivity.

My question is:

1. At present, we are using a Qlik Sense license in the on-premises environment. If I migrate to a private cloud environment, will I be able to use the same on-premises Qlik Sense in the private cloud?

2. If yes, Can I use the license in both on-prem and cloud at the same time?

Kindly suggest.

Hi @balajibc64 ,

I'll answer both your questions inline, ok?

1. At present, we are using a Qlik Sense license in the on-premises environment. If I migrate to a private cloud environment, will I be able to use the same on-premises Qlik Sense in the private cloud?

Yes, Qlik Sense Enterprise Client-Managed can be installed on private cloud providers with no issues at all. I would just highlight the firewall ports that need to be opened between the Qlik Sense nodes, and the 443 to the users. If you would like to share the cloud provider, we can help you further.

2. If yes, Can I use the license in both on-prem and cloud at the same time?

If you are using a token-based license, you cannot use the same license in both environments. That would lead to doubling the number of licenses available, breaching the license agreement.

But if your license is subscription-based (Professional and Analyzer type), you may run both servers in parallel since the License service will sync the license consumption in the backend, ensuring your taken seats are in compliance.

Good luck on the migration! That's an excellent move!

Thank you @hugo_andrade .

I will check and get back to you, if anything required further. Moreover, we are using subscription-based license type.

Hi @hugo_andrade

After installing Qlik Sense on my private cloud server (npqlk101), I tried to apply the signed license key copied from my on-prem server (tqls0005), but I’m getting the error “An error has occurred. Please refresh the QMC” when accessing the QMC.

Kindly advise.

Note: My on-prem hostname is "tqls0005" and my private cloud "npqlk101"
