3D Charts/Visualizations

Hi guys,

Is there any way to make the out of the box charts more 3D? The current ones are very flat and not overly pretty.

I know there are some D3 charts out there, but again they have other features but lack in 3D or angling in any way.

Perhaps this is deliberate as Qlik just want to show visualizations clean and basic?

Cheers

Immy

Hi Imtiaz thanks for this. This is a very sensitive topic in the data visualization space, especially for those who are "experts" (aka Stephen Few, etc/) in visualization design. You are correct, this is done deliberately. If you are interested in learning more on this topic I can have one of our data visualization specialist chime in.

If you mean "not exactly" 3D - but you would like more depth, like drop shadows, thicker borders, etc - then please provide your ideas here and I will submit them to R &D for future consideration.

Hi Mike,

You are correct, more functionality around border etc, the softer touches I guess as oppose to full 3D.

I have worked on a number of solutions/components (Panorama, PowerBI, Dundas Charting etc) and many offer a range of functions to manipulate charts, either the full monty or just subtleness. It is the latter I am asking about.

Is this something perhaps QlikView offers rather than QS?

Ill upload some thoughts shortly.

Thanks

Imtiaz

Hi Imitiaz - yes QlikView allows a finer granularity around styling for these sort of things.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think 3D charts are more about visual impact than adding additional functionality, although the third dimension can certainly do both. I believe 3D column charts are likely to provide more value than 3D pie charts, but there is value in accenting the data with a 3rd dimension to provide emphasis. On the whole, depth, drop shadows and borders would certainly help to add visual interest to Qlik.
