AD Groups w/ user security

I am trying to determine the best way to set this up.  If I have users who are admins, users, developers etc, and I have different streams like HR, Operations, Sales, etc how do I set them up with security along with AD Groups?

So, if I create AD Groups Admins, Users, etc and then create AD Groups that align with my streams like HR, Sales, etc  and then I have several users, I can add users to the AD Group that align with the stream, how do I take someone from the developers group and have them in a stream with the users?

Basically, how do I manage several levels of user types, with different content access rights & security rights without having to manage each user 1 by 1?

I have reviewed this document and others, managing

at the user level is not practical.

Hi Phaneendra,

I'm not able to open your link at work. Can you create a pdf of it and post it so I can get it? We're just settijng up Qlik View and have the same situation with people "who are admins, users, developers etc, and I have different streams like HR, Operations, Sales".

Thanks,

Linda

Re: AD Groups w/ user security

This article in the help file should get you started:

http://help.qlik.com/sense/1.1/en-US/online/#../Subsystems/ManagementConsole/Content/ServerUserGuide...

I created a custom property called user type, then I recreated all the security rules to directly apply to these user types and I was able to get what I wanted.  Note, every user has to have a type assigned else they will have Admin rights by default.  I think this is a bug.  Also, I set up the AD Groups to align with the streams and set read only on the stream and added folks to the AD Groups they needed.  Then the security rules that are applied to the user type will control the users access.  Again, be sure you apply the user type to each user.

There are several ways to go about this as Sense is very flexible

Hi Sean. Thanks for the link!! I'm going to use this with Qlik View since that's where we're starting to set things up. We just had the application installed and it's so exciting!!
