Creating a Variable for a Dimension

Is there a way for you to create a variable for a Dimension? The target is to have a variable that will recognize that a new month will be added to a dimension. Example sample data below. Current month end at 2020-M04 (April). Next month will add 2020-M05. I ultimately do not want to hard code dates and have to maintain it. Just wondering if this is possible.

not clear what you mean.

the date column will automatically load all the dates thats there in data when it reloads. Why do you need a variable as dimension, why not the date column ?

please elaborate what you are trying to achieve
