Hello,

in contrast to QlikView Personal Edition where you can't open applications created by other users with Qlik Sense Desktop you can open any application you want to, as long as you want.

Qlik Sense Desktop is for free and as known today this won't change.

The only thing is that you have to update 6 months after the newest version is released (the normal interval is 3 times a year).

And you can't use section access (data reduction based on user), but I think for desktop you don't need.

So why license?

In enterprise area with a server your datas and application are reloaded by server, you can open your applications from any device you want to (PC, Laptop, tablet) and you can share your applications and Charts with other users.

Regards

You can continue to evaluate Qlik sense for free but won't be able to open app's created by other user's that's the only thing

Anyone else with a licensed version can open app's created using free version

Hi Maciej,

As Martin states, there has been no mention of Qlik ever charging for Sense Desktop, and it is fully featured as a Desktop platform.

Qlik are looking to reach more and more people with their analytics solutions, and the best way to do this is by having a completely free of charge entry point for Desktop users.  Adoption of a paid solution (where you can make your apps more easily available to others) also has a low cost entry point - with Qlik Sense Cloud for Business offering sharing and automated data refreshes for a per user monthly subscription.  Even going for a full blown server solution doesn't have to break the bank, as the server software is free of charge and the cost is only in the user licences to access the server (and the hardware to run it).  You need to buy at least five of these licences to get started though.

Through these low cost points of entry I believe that Sense could really be the BI solution for the masses, provided the number of available features continue to grow as they have been since launch.

So, go wild creating in Qlik Sense Desktop - those apps will not be taken away from you.

It was essential for Qlik to do this. The cloud market could be huge but Qlik must get a significant cloud market share before the cheapish competition becomes too well established.

Agree. When potential buyers see Sense as it is now (not when it was first introduced though) they are often blown away. But Sense Cloud needs a critical mass.

For Qlik Sense there is not a restriction on exchaning applications between different users. What you are referring to is QlikView. With QlikView Desktop you have this restriction.

I tried to open a few apps from the community but they never opened always got a blank screen so I thought the restriction was the same as qlikview..Thanks for letting me know

I will try on a different machine

Hi,

The way you open QVFs on Desktop is a bit different to QlikView.  You need to copy the QVF file into the following folder c:\Users\[user]\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps and then open Desktop.

Good luck.

Hi,

Thank you all for your feedback to my question. They all are valuable and gave a fresh view into Qlik and what is supposed to be done with their free solution. It is essential to understand Qlik's policy in that case.

BR,

Maciej
