I am facing errors when trying to install Qlik Sense desktop version to my Windows 7 machine, stating that a new version of windows is required.
Will Qlik Sense work only in Windows 8 and higher?

Qlik Sense Desktop works with Windows 7, 8, 8.1. However it is 64 bit only. Here is a link to the aystem requirements.
