Is it possible to notify the user to make a selection first?

I made a linechart and I'm currently trying to do the following:

Because of the many lines in the chart, I basically want to notify the user that he/she has to make a selection first. This is because if there is no selection, the chart looks like chaos (lots of lines with no overview). But if you choose one perticular dimension, it looks neat. This is how it looks when there is no selection:

So I want something like this before I show the chart, if there are no selections made yet (this is from a pivot table I did not make myself):
