Heloo, 

I have a filter on a field that has yes or no values and I would like to convert it to yes and all (yes+no) values.

But I do not want to change the script so I was thinking on creating a variable.

I would use the Navigation Button 

Create 2 buttons.  The "Yes" button would set the filter to Yes, the "All" button would just clear the filter so that "Yes" and "No" are possible.

Setting the filter has the advantage of affecting all charts in the application.  If you create a variable, you will still need a button to set the variable and then you will need to add the variable to the expressions.
