Section Access for unpublished apps?

So I've spent the last hour trying to figure out why the section access on my application wasn't working.

Turns out the section access was correct all along, I just had to publish the app to a stream for it to take effect.

Is this the expected behavior, maybe a default security rule that overrides section access for apps in the "Work" space?

It would be helpful for testing purposes if the section access was applied even on unpublished apps.

I have never seen section access work before publishing the app to stream.

Use Header authentication proxy to login as different users to test your SA without asking end users to do it for you...

strange... did you close and reopen your dev app after reload with SA for testing? (ideally, close/empty cache etc... )

(not sure about the architecture, but my guess is that access is given or not at the time the app is opened by the user:
