How can I show multiple bars side by side in a combo chart?

Hello all,

Please bear with me here, I'm very new to QlikView ;-)

Anyway...

I have a combo chart with four expressions in it. I wish to show two of these as bars positioned next to each other but when I select to show both as bars they are automatically stacked and I can't find any option or preference to have them put side by side instead. All of the expressions use the same dimension.

What do I need to do to show the two bars next to each other instead of stacked on top of each other?

How can I show multiple bars side by side in a combo chart?

I was taking a look at this and at first I could not reproduce your problem when I read that you inherited the application I tried something to see what would happen. I created a standard stacked bar chart. Then I changed it to a combo, when I did this the subtype(grouped/stacked) radio buttons were greyed out but my chart remained stacked.

I suggest you change the chart type to a standard bar and change the subtype to grouped. then change it back to a combo. there is a risk that some of the combo settings may be lost but at lease you won't have the stacking problem.

Hi,

In the Style tab, do you have selected Stacked or Grouped?

Under the Style-tab Grouped is selected as Subtype but it is greyed out, i.e. I can't change this setting.

Unfortunately I wasn't the one who started building this document, I sort of inherited it from someone else who isn't here anymore, so some questions regarding the document I may have a hard time answering properly. Just so you know :-)

How can I show multiple bars side by side in a combo chart?

Go to the chartoperties-> Axes

On the box dimension axis

the continuos box must be unchecked

Otherwise, side by side bars would mean that they are at different point in the x-axis, then this option would be unavailable.

Hope it helps,

Erich

Thank you. That answer put me on the right path. Apparently something happens when you switch chart types that messes up the chart to the point where there is no going back.

In order to get the chart to behave as it should I had to reconstruct it from zero. Now the bars are no longer stacked and everything looks like it should.

Thanks!
