QV .share and .meta files

Hi guys,

I'm a new user to QV, and I have a question about .share and .meta files. Could anyone explain what they are? Are they automatically generated when I create a new .qvw file? or under certain conditions?

Thanks!!!

Both will be created when first time user access the QVW from accesspoint..

META file that contains:

a.AccessPoint attributes

b.Pre-load options

c.Authorization (Document Metadata Service – that is, DMS – mode only)

Shared Files

There are multiple objects available for user collaboration and sharing through QlikView Server:

Bookmarks

Sheet objects, including charts

Reports

Annotations

Hi Phan,

Thanks for your answer! So do you mean the files are not created when I develop the .qvw file, instead they will be automatically created when I open my .qvw file through Accesspoint, correct?

Is  possible to create the meta file from the api or otherwise without accessing the access point?

Thanks

We have plenty of documentation on how to use Qlikview API calls in our Knowledgebase (https://support.qlik.com/QS_CoveoSearch#t=All&sort=relevancy), however, I don't know of any way off the top of my head to generate a .meta file without accessing the QVW from the Accesspoint. This is a file that's generated by Qlikview Server and as previously mentioned in this thread, will be located in the same folder than the QVW together with the .shared file.

The .meta file shares the following information concerning the QVW document:
- Whether creation of server objects is allowed for this document and for which user
- Availability information (With which client can the user open the QVW document, if download is allowed and session collaboration)
- Performance information (Session timeout for the document)
- Whether Audit logging is enabled for this document
- On which node is the document available and is it preloaded (used for QVS pinning)
- Authorizations when DMS mode is used to control access rights.
- The category the document belongs to

Your question might be best asked in the Qlikview Development section of Community, maybe another user has been able to generate a .meta file using an API call.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Josh

It is potentially possible to get .meta created via the QMS APIs, as you can do this in the QMC via Documents\User Documents by changing/adding any attribute settings there, that will force a .meta file to be created for the app.  Here is a link to the QMS API Help:

http://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview-developer/April2019/APIs/QMS+API/html/7b30b3a1-77da-4bbe-bdc2-13...

Sorry I do not know the exact methods you may need here etc., but hopefully you may be able to sort things out.  One way to try to reverse engineer things might be to run a trace on the QMC calls as you hit those pages etc.

Brett
