help needed with making dynamic selections

hi all.

i have a requirement to make some awkward selections, the outcome of this is to get NPrinting to produce an extract after making these selections, but first i want to get it working in QV before i can then look at doing it in NPrinting.

i have a field (Dataset) which holds mixed format values (text and numeric - text appended by period - XXXXXX FY17 201705), i need to make selections on these fields for the last 3 periods. it needs to be dynamic, so as periods change the selections also change.

i have created a button and was looking at getting an action to do this in the first instance, i can then look at using the syntax of that action for an NPrinting filter.

i have attached a example QVW and would appreciate it if someone could take a look and help, an example of what i need to do is in a text box in the QVW

Sorry, I don't have much experience with NPrinting.

Any idea which part breaks (variables, search string, trigger)?

i cant get the variables to pass through, but i have it in my mind that QV variables don't work in NP.

i think NP can populate variables in QV but i dont think you can use variables from QV but im not 100% sure.

Do dollar sign expansions work in NPrinting?

Yes dollar sign expansions work in NPrinting.  Make sure you tell it to evaluate.  Also make sure that the variable is defined in Qlikview and not in Nprinting if you want to make multiple selections.
