The only difference is the license.

The Personal Edition gives you full Desktop Client functionality but only allows you to open QlikView apps created on your PC/laptop. Any QVW files you create with the Personal Edition are fully-functioning QlikView apps that can be opened by anyone with a license.

A paid license applied to the Personal Edition unlocks the full version of QlikView Desktop (or via a leased Named User CAL from a QlikView Server).

Download personal edition.  You can enter your license key after you open it up.

Here is a video: 100 Second Video - How to enter the License key

The difference is not just the license.

Some functions, although only a few, were disabled in the PE version in order to avoid as much as possible the exchange of QVW content with another PE version. Import/Export of various things via XML are not working in PE. That shouldn't come as a surprise though.

Hi Jingyi,

As mentioned above you need to download and install the Personal Edition and then licence it to make it a full Desktop edition.  This is required to open documents created by other users.

If your company has a desktop licence key for you then apply it as above.  If (as is more often the case) they have a server licence with a number of Full User CALs you need to lease a licence.  If you search for QlikView Licence Lease you should find plenty of information on this.  In short though:

Ensure you have a full CAL on the server (or set server to auto allocate licences)

Open Personal Edition

On the Start Page select Open In Server

Type your server name in the Address box

Click Open

Open the tree path and click to open a document you have access to

Close this document again

You should now be leasing a licence on QlikView Desktop, this is confirmed in the top right corner of the Start Page and the 'Personal Edition' text should have been removed from the title bar.

Hope this helps.

@Steve Dark - Thanks. I have seen a computer which uses a license from a server. But, I do not see it when I go to help > about qlikview. The "License Key" and "Licensed to" are blank. Is this normal ? Does this license last only as long as you are connected to the server ?

Hi John. It is normal not to see anything under the licence details when you are leasing a licence. You should see the text in the Welcome page though advising that you are leasing from a server.

The lease will automatically renew whenever you are connected to the server. If you are not connected to the server it will last for 30 days before it expires.

Personal edition is a freeware(trail version)

the apps can be opened only by the login system

the qlikview desktop is the licenced version.

the apps can be opened by any proper licenced user

Hi Steve Dark,

Thanks for the info, but it doesn't seem to work with me. Step by step i do what you explane but when i have opened and closed the document from our QV server the text "Personal Edition" isn't removed from the title bar.

I do see the tree path and i can open a qv document. So it isn't the connection to the QV server that isn't working.

Any help will be appriciated!

Thanks in advance!

With kind regards,

Tom

There are a few things that will stop licences being leased:

- You can not lease from a test server

- Allow licence lease must be ticked in QMC

- A single user can only lease to two machines

- You must not have a Document CAL on the document you are attempting to

lease from

All of these things can be checked in the QMC.

Hope you get it resolved.

Cheers,

Steve
