The Internet Explorer plugin has been around since before Qlik released the Ajax possibility in QlikView. It was great then as it allowed functionality that was not available in a normal browser without the plugin.
Nowadays the Plugin is depreciated as not all functionality is available in IE plugin (e.g. extension objects).
I instruct my clients to run the Ajax version over the IE plugin unless they are very familiar working with the plugin.
