Qlik Sense requires the database superuser password to upgrade Qlik Sense or install Qlik Sense if an existing database is present.

Environment:

Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows

If you lost the password, but have already uninstalled the existing version of Qlik Sense:

  1. Back up C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgresSQL
  2. Download and install PostgreSQL (note it needs to be the version you are currently using)
  3. When installing PostgreSQL ensure that the database folder is set to C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL
  4. Backup C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL\pg_hba.conf
  5. Open pg_hba.conf
  6. Replace 'md5' with 'trust'
  7. Start PostgreSQL
  8. Connect to the database as 'postgres', you will not need a password to connect due to the changes we previously made
  9. Change the password for 'postgres' and 'qliksenserepository'
  10. Shut down PostgreSQL
  11. Restore the backup of pg_hba.conf
  12. Uninstall PostgreSQL
  13. Install Qlik Sense using the new passwords
