Variants are usually included in the standard SAP client copy process when a new client is built. If a target has not been refreshed recently, you may be missing new variants or any updates since the client was built. The variant tables can be copied using Qlik Gold Client.

Client Construct

All variants can be copied using Client Construct. Variants are stored in tables VARI, VARID, VARIS, and VARIT. If there is no Client Construct data type for these tables*, go to ZGOLD – Configuration – Data Framework – Client Construct. Switch to change mode and click New Entries. Enter the new data type name and click Save. Highlight the new data type and double-click on folder Master Data Tables.

* This can be verified using utility ZGOLD – Configuration – Data Framework – Data Type Table Query.

Click New Entries. Add tables VARI, VARID, VARIS, and VARIT and click Save.

Go back to the main ZGOLD screen and click Client Exporter. Keep the defaults for Select Processing Method and Export Scope. Under Data Selection Criteria, change it to Select Data Type(s) and enter the new variant data type only. Click Schedule Job to export this data.

Import in the target client using the Client Importer. To completely remove and refresh the variants, when importing, select the Delete Table Data Before Import option.

Data Echo has a data type called CA – VARIANTS which could be used to copy all or a subset of variants. Customers have reported varying degrees of success when using this data type dependent on the variant data in their system. Using an asterisk to select all is not always successful, and in some cases, the variant names must be used. On the import side, replacing the data may not be clean depending on the data that already exists in the target client. The cleanest approach is to use Client Construct as described above.
