The Qlik ODBC Connector Package is automatically upgraded when you upgrade your Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows installation. No manual action is required.

In rare cases, you may, however, want to manually:

  • Downgrade to a previous QVOdbcConnectorPackage version to address potential issues, or
  • Upgrade your QVOdbcConnectorPackage version because you have received a hotfix or custom debugging build.
Always create a backup of your existing QVOdbcConnectorPackage before carrying out the steps below.

Downgrading your QvODBC Connector package

These steps outline how to replace the QVOdbcConnectorPackage in an upgraded environment with the QVOdbcConnectorPackage of a previous version. This assumes you have access to an older setup from which you can source the files.

This is useful when you have upgraded Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows and encountered a defect that can be resolved by reverting to the previous QVOdbcConnectorPackage version, while not downgrading your entire Qlik Sense environment.

  1. Obtain an older QVOdbcConnectorPackage:

    1. On your existing test environment or older environment, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom Data\QvOdbcConnectorPackage

This is the QvOdbcConnectorPackage version you want to downgrade to.

    2. Zip the entire QvOdbcConnectorPackage into an archive and copy it for later. In our example, it will be referred to as QlikODBCConnectorPackage.zip.
  2. Replace the new QvOdbcConnectorPackage with the previous one

    1. On the upgraded system: Log in to your Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows reload node with an administrator account.
These steps must be repeated on all reload nodes if you have a multi-node environment.
    2. Stop all Qlik Sense services. This prevents files from being locked during the procedure. See Manual Start and Stop order of Qlik Sense services.

    3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom Data\QvOdbcConnectorPackage

    4. Back up the existing QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder on all nodes by creating a zipped archive and storing the file in a separate location. This allows you to easily revert to the original package.

    5. Delete all content within the original QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder

    6. Unzip the content of the previous QlikODBCConnectorPackage.zip to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Qlik\Custom Data\QvOdbcConnectorPackage

If you are not logged in with an administrator account or the target machine has been further secured, you may need to unblock the archive. To do so, right-click the file and untick the Unblock checkbox. Contact your local IT for details.

    7. Start the Qlik Sense Services

  3. Test your connections and reloads.

Upgrading your QvODBC Connector package

These steps outline how to replace the QVOdbcConnectorPackage with an upgraded version of the QVOdbcConnectorPackage without needing to upgrade your entire Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows environment.

This is useful when you have received a custom or debug build.

  1. Log in to your Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows reload node with an administrator account.

Do not delete the backup of your existing binaries. Store the .zip archive of your backup in a dedicated folder (not inside the installation directory) and retain it.

Before upgrading Qlik Sense the next time (Initial Release or Service Release), it is important to restore these binaries from the backup. Failing to do so may result in incorrect connection upgrades. You may also be required to restore the backup in case of technical difficulties with the ODBC Connector Package and for troubleshooting purposes.
  5. Delete all content within the original QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder

  6. Download and unpack the Qlik ODBC Connector Package you wish to upgrade to.

If you are not logged in with an administrator account or the target machine has been further secured, you may need to unblock the archive. To do so, right-click the file and untick the Unblock checkbox. Contact your local IT for details.

  7. Replace the old content of the QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder with the content of your new QvOdbcConnectorPackage folder that you downloaded and unpacked.

  8. Start the Qlik Sense Services

We do not offer the individual Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows ODBC Connector Packages for download on the download site. If you are looking to update them without upgrading Qlik Sense, you will need to first download a Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows server install, then install it, and copy the files directly from there. We do not recommend doing so.
