For direct assistance (planning and execution) of your Qlik NPrinting environment, contact Qlik's Professional Services.

The procedure to migrate Qlik NPrinting to a different environment or server is a matter of backing up the current installation and restoring it to the target system. This will transfer all information (such as tasks, reports, users, connections).

  1. Take a backup of your current install: Backing up Qlik NPrinting
  2. Install an identical version of Qlik NPrinting on the target system: Qlik NPrinting installation
    • The Qlik NPrinting version must be identical. Backups are not compatible across versions.
    • You can use different domain users for the services in the new installation, as long as the system requirements are met.
  3. Restore the backup on the target system: Restoring Qlik NPrinting from a backup
  4. Deactivate the license in the old environment and apply it to the new server; the license can be deactivated in the Admin section > License management
  5. Add a new Qlik NPrinting Engine. See Adding a Qlik NPrinting Engine
  6. If applicable, change the connection paths as those might have changed.
  7. For Qlik Sense connections, new certificates need to be exported from Qlik Sense and imported to the Qlik NPrinting server.

Hello @Giovanni_Civardi

The method to approach this depends on the depth of the Active Directory deployment with NPrinting. As such, we need to recommend reaching out to Professional Services and having them assist you in managing this migration end to end.

simple set of instructions for moving active directory domains with minimal complexity would follow this:

To prep:

You are likely to run into issues with Windows authentication when you log on for the first time after the repository restore. In case the domain changes, the Windows authentication will fail. So you'd need to create an Admin user that can log in with Email and Password before taking the backup on the old system so that you can log in on the new server.

Then:

  1. Stop the engines and Qlik NPrinting services
  2. Backup the Qlik NPrinting databases
  3. Remove the Qlik NPrinting engines and server
  4. Change the domain membership of each Qlik NPrinting server computer
  5. Reinstall the Qlik NPrinting engines and server
  6. Restore the Qlik NPrinting database
  7. Manually reinsert each domain mapping used for each user account

Though again: We need to highly recommend getting in touch with our professional services on this subject.

All the best,
Sonja
