Missing or unknown data connections, Data Sources, and Qlik ODBC connectors after February 2021 or November 2020 Patch upgrade

Data connections disappear after an upgrade to Qlik Sense February 2021 Patch 7 and 8 or November 2020 Patch 12. The patch introduces compatibility issues with the Qlik ODBC connector package connectors and affects Qlik's Web Connector availability.

Symptom 1:

Data connections previously available as Data Sources in the hub are no longer available. Such as:

Amazon Redshift
Apache Drill
Azure Synape Analytics
Cloudera Impala
Salesforce
MongoDB
Snowflake
Note that this is list is not comprehensive and varies depending on the setup.

Symptom 3:

Data connections previously available have vanished such as:

Symptom 2:

It is not possible to create new connections with the Qlik ODBC connectors as they are not available any more on the Qlik Sense Hub, you can see the 404 error in the browser dev tools:

Symptom 3

Existing Qlik ODBC connector package connections have an "Unknown connection type: QvOdbcConnectorPackage.exe" message:

Environment

  • Qlik Sense November 2020 Patch 12
  • Qlik Sense February 2021 Patch 7 and 8

Resolution

Remove the mentioned patches and either:
  • Apply the previous patch or
  • Upgrade to later patches, such as Feb 2021 Patch 9.

That's unfortunate, yesterday I just upgrade a multi-node site with Qlik Sense February 2021 Patch 7.

@Andreas_Giesbrecht for the workaround, do you mean a downgrade of a major release or it would work if I uninstall the Patch 7?

Thanks in advance!

Andreas_Giesbrecht

Hi @ponchoorozcodiq

Thank you for your feedback.

With "downgrade to the previous versions" I meant remove patch 7 and apply the previous patch, I have adjusted this article accordingly.

Best regards

Can you confirm this doesn't affect May 2021 or any of its patches? Looking to upgrade to that from Feb 2021 Patch 7 rather than roll back if we can...

Hello @AlexOmetis

Only February 2021 Patch 7 and November 2020 Patch 12 are affected by this. Upgrading will uninstall them and fix it when it installs a new version/patch. So you'll be good with your approach!

I can confirm that following upgrade to May 2021 Patch 2 the issue went away.

this should list more symptoms, and things users will search for.... after this patch many connectors are missing, no longer an option... the ones that are missing should be listed here. There are many many more that are missing not just the odbc one... please list more of them to improve findability of this info for users.  I was not able to find this and had to log a ticket with support to find out about this known issue.  thanks!

Hello @Ken_T

We're currently only aware of the ODBC connector issues. Do you have additional details for us on what other connections have been disabled when you upgraded?

The article was also updated to reflect additional keywords.

We are on QS Enterprise Feb 2021 Patch 5 and upgraded to Feb 2021 Patch 8 and had the connector issue. We reverted to Patch 5.

@Sonja_Bauernfeind Any ideas?

Hello @ChristiW - let me reach out to one of our SMEs.

Did reverting resolve the issue for you?

Hello @ChristiW !

I can confirm that this also happens in patch 8. Uninstalling the patch and installing patch 9 has resolved the issue.

Will update the article accordingly.

All the best,

Sonja
