Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS: Third-party extensions cannot be exported

Third-party extensions cannot be exported in Qlik Sense Business/Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS.

Environments:

  • Qlik Sense Business
  • Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS

At the moment, the fact that third-party extensions are not allowed for export has been a conscious decision.

Qlik is working on removing this restriction, but it will require a deeper analysis and a decision at Legal/Architectural/Product Management levels.

The current status of the work to resolve this issue is in development, but there is no timeframe for release.

Here is additional detail for context:

  • Qlik Sense Enterprise SaaS uses a different mechanism for printing and exporting content than Qlik Sense Enterprise on Windows.
  • In Qlik Sense SaaS a reporting service REST API is used to process these requests.
  • 3rd-party visualizations (those not supported natively by Qlik) are not exportable through this service for security reasons.
  • The way the export / extract process works in Qlik Sense SaaS is it runs the visualization code in a microservice.
    • It was discovered in security testing that 3rd party extensions (i.e. 3rd party code) executed in this service may contain malicious code that could attack the system and have a material impact on the customer's Qlik Sense instance and Qlik Sense on Cloud Services as a whole.

@Sonja_Bauernfeind  - it seems there might be two different conversations going on here.  The ideation you point to looks to be about exporting the extension itself (from the Management Console, Extensions section).  There is a separate, and in my opinion greater, need to export the output from a third-party visualization to image or pdf.  That appears to be what is being discussed in this thread, but that doesn't appear to be what the ideation is referring to.

Can you confirm?

Thanks

Cory

Hello @CoryC

Aha! In this case it is best to log a new idea for this, as we do not currently have any other plans around this.

All the best,
Sonja

Hi @Sonja_Bauernfeind ,

I want to add to the complaint about the serious problem this limitation poses. The Cloud must provide advantages in terms of developing and sharing data in all formats otherwise the platform , if it takes steps backward , loses credibility !

It cannot be imagined that for security reasons extensions that have been trusted for years, such as Vizlib, are being blocked

Hello @steeramp

Absolutely understood! I would recommend logging this as a suggestion in our Ideas section, which is being monitored by our product management teams and reviewed. Feel free to include a link to this article for further context and provide us with as much detail to your requirement as possible.

All the best,
Sonja

Hi @steeramp,

I totally agree with you !
Vizlib is now a strong value-added extension , recognized by Qlik and customers.
Hope we'll have this functionnality unlocked soon.

@Sonja_Bauernfeind you have to give us good news for Christmas 😉

Guillaume
