Customer elects to run Qlikview desktops through Citrix for the Developers in their environment.  Is QlikView officially supported to run on Citrix? License lease with Citrix

Environment:

QlikView
Citrix

Qlik does not test QlikView Client in a Citrix environment. It is not listed as an officially supported platform.

QlikView Client may run in a Citrix environment but there are some things to be aware of:

  1. Licensing

    • A single user can lease up to two licenses to two separate workstations within a 7 day period.

License lease only allows a borrowed cal to be used twice in a 7 day period. This can cause issues if the user connects to many different servers in a Citrix "Farm" during this time.  An attempt to lease the third license in a 7 day period will be revoked if the same User ID is used. Additionally, the existing license lease of the third machine, should there be one previously existing, will be revoked in the case where the same User ID has leased a license from two other workstations in the previous 24 hour period. The third machine will however be able to lease a license after 7 day have passed.

Note that the 7 day quarantine for Named User CALs and Document CALs was introduced in the following versions:  QlikView 11.20 SR16, QlikView 12.00 SR6 , QlikView 12.10 IR and later.

Previous versions adhered to a 24-hour period.

    • Using local client keys is suggested for large server farms with a copy of the license added to each Citrix Server which the Developer may use.   This can lead to a big administrative overhead in large Citrix environments.

  2. Memory Usage

    • QlikView Client for Developers can consume a large amount of  RAM.   In a Citrix environment, many users are sharing server RAM. There is significant risk memory usage could become a problem and should be carefully planned.

Any problems encountered in a Citrix environment will need to be replicated in a non-Citrix environment in order to be acknowledged as defects.
