At the end of October, I headed to Bath and Warwick University to introduce students to the Qlik Academic Program and to highlight the importance of data literacy for their future careers.

For the visit to Warwick, I had great support from Marius Popa and Mike O’Shea from our pre-sales team. We presented to over 70 students studying for an MSc in Management Information Systems and Digital Innovation in the Management School. Dr Markos Zachariadis who runs the Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence module has been involved with the Qlik Academic Program for several years and is a strong supporter of getting students hands on with industry leading tools in the classroom. As well as giving students an introduction to the importance of Data Analytics in the modern workplace we also showed demos of how Qlik Sense is used across a range of organisations. From there students then had the opportunity to get hands on and build their first application in Qlik Sense. Since running the workshop, to date we have had 69 students from Warwick sign up to the Academic Program, so they will now be able to take advantage of our wealth of learning resources.

The following day, we headed to the University of Bath for the fourth year running. This time Julie Main and Kevin Alty from the pre-sales team joined me to deliver the session for the MSc in Business Analytics course. Güneş Erdoğan, Director of studies for the MSc Business Analytics Programme is our main contact at Bath and has been working with the Qlik Academic Program since 2016. After introducing students to Qlik Sense we set them a challenge of making recommendations on what Netflix should include in their 2020 catalogue, based on historic movie data. All groups made great presentations and as well as presenting their findings within Qlik Sense, the students also discussed the challenges and learning points that they had encountered throughout the session. Many now plan to use the e-learning resources available in the Qlik Continuous classroom to further improve their skills in Qlik Sense, so that they can use it for upcoming project work.
