Qlik Automations – "POST method not supported" error when executing automation via API (GET/HEAD only)

We are experiencing a recurring error when executing a Qlik Automation via its execution endpoint. This was working previously and has recently started failing.

Error message received:

{
  "message": "The POST method is not supported for route v1/automations/{automation-id}/actions/execute/{appId}?...
  Supported methods: GET, HEAD."
}

Example Automation IDs affected:

  • 6499c600-4607-11ee-bela-01df9a62e147
  • 9f93489-e286-4a4-87b8-a89abebble74

Details:

  • The automation execution is being triggered via a POST request to v1/automations/{automation-id}/actions/execute/{appId}, which is the standard method for triggering an automation from an external application/webform.
  • The API is now returning an error stating that POST is not supported on this route, and that only GET and HEAD methods are permitted.
  • This is unexpected, as POST has previously worked for triggering automation execution and no changes were made on our side to how the request is sent.
  • The issue is affecting multiple automations (not isolated to a single one) and multiple users, blocking business-critical data update processes for our team.

Questions:

  1. Has there been a recent change to the Automations execution API that affects which HTTP methods are supported on the actions/execute route?
  2. Is there a change required on our side (e.g. a different endpoint, authentication method, or automation trigger configuration) to restore POST support?

Try :
POST
/api/v1/automations/{id}/runs

This should be resolved - please open a support case if this continues. Thanks!

Hi @ArtiP11 ,

Your endpoint does not look right. The execute via POST endpoint has this structure:

curl 'https://{tenant}.{region}.qlikcloud.com/api/v1/automations/{automation_id}/actions/execute' \
-XPOST \
-H 'X-Execution-Token: {execution_token}'

Make sure your Start block Run Mode is set to Triggered and verify the CURL command, it should look like the screen shot below:

Be aware the Automation endpoint above is legacy and will be replaced with the new endpoints. You can give a try to this one here: https://qlik.dev/apis/rest/workflows/automations/#post-api-workflows-automations-id-runs

Regards,

Mark Costa
