How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hi I have to draw polygon map for Australian postcodes. I am not able to find the KML file for Australian postcodes. Anyone knows how to get the KML file for Australia Postcodes ? I will really appreciate your response.

Or If there is any other option ( without using KML files) to draw polygon map for Australian postcodes then please let me know.

I will really appreciate your response. Please note I am using Qlik Sense Desktop.

Thanks

Ajay

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hi Ajay,

Fyi, the map extension IdevioMaps for QlikView and Qlik Sense has all Australian postal code boundaries built in. No need to load any KML, just reference the zip code.

More info and live demos at QlikMarket:

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hi Ajay

Its a bit late, but attached are files containing Aust postcode KML. Also attached also are Australian States KML and shapes Local Govt Areas (LGAs). Hopefully this posting will allow other user's to find the resource in future.

Note that the standard Qlik Map object has a limit to the number of points that can be plotted. This is both a practical and a system limit.

- Practical, in that it is only possible to see a certain amount of lines on a map before the map gets too busy to read

- System in that Qlik will return the message you are seeing when there are too many points / lines to plot practically

A KML file is a bunch of points with lines drawn between them. You can simplify KML files by reducing the points plotted. This just 'rounds' out your shapes a little. The files attached to the post have been simplified in this respect. Note that you cannot display all Australian postcode shapes at once, as there are too many points to display at the country level and that much detail is unreadable in a single map anyway. It displays fine at the state level, although even then there are still too many postcodes in metro areas to display clearly. Note that the standard map object does not yet do drill down on KML shapes (ie. from state to postcode). But I believe you may be able to achieve this with the new widget object in Sense 3.0. I will investigate and put a post on community if I find the solution.

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Thanks Lee,

is it possible to add a layer with the KML polygons to an existing Qlik Sense 3.0 map?

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hi Alan

I am not quite sure what you are asking, but hopefully this addresses your question:

- You can use polygon layers in your Qlik Sense maps, as long as you have imported the polygons into the data model (as KML files)

- You can plot points on a map from Lat & Long values in your data model.

- You can load multiple point and polygon layers into your data model. But at this stage you cannot display multiple layers on a single map.

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Thats the issue.

I have a use where on a map I need to plot geopoints as well as an LGA boundary

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hi Alan,

The extension IdevioMaps for Sense supports multiple layers on the map (areas, geopoints, lines, heatmaps and much more).

Furthermore, using the incorporated GeoAnalytics connector you can load the geometries directly from geojson files and simplify them when loading the data (http://bi.idevio.com/simplifying-geodata).

Re: How to find Australian Postcode KML file

Hello Mickaël,

Here you can find the shapefile with postal codes for France:

https://www.data.gouv.fr/en/datasets/fond-de-carte-des-codes-postaux/

You need to convert to KML though... or use Qlik GeoAnalytics where you can reference French postal codes by name and the areas will show up on your map.

Furthermore, with Qlik GeoAnalytics you can load directly from any shapefile into your app, no need to use a GIS tool at all!

Find more info here:
