Hi guys - in my recent post - Take a Tour of Our New Cloud-based editions of Qlik Sense - I gave you a tour of the various interface components and sections of our cloud-based editions of Qlik Sense. If you have not watched Part 1 and Part 2 yet, I suggest you do before watching this BONUS video. To recap, in the tour video I briefly touched on the topic of Spaces.  Spaces are the way you secure, organize, manage and publish your Qlik Sense apps.  I explained that there is waaaaay...more to be discussed on this topic and that it would be better if it had its own video. Well, that is what we have here today - this is your BONUS video that dives in a bit deeper to Shared and Managed Spaces.

Within the cloud-based editions of Qlik Sense we have not only introduced a new user experience with the Hub, but we also added new content management capabilities directly in the Hub where apps are stored, shared and published to what we call - Shared and Managed Spaces. Please note that this video is a bit longer than my normal videos, but well worth the watch as I cover Spaces, roles, permissions and demonstrate the results using various user accounts. Thanks for watching and please post your comments and questions below.

Regards,

Mike Tarallo

Hello Mike,

Can you explain more of the difference between Shared & Managed Spaces and when should a Shared or Managed Space be used.

Thank You,

Michael

Hi @mstoler

NB. Managed space's only apply to QSE.

Shared Spaces. An App is moved to a shared space. So if its developed in a  Private Space. It will be moved out of the private space The members of the shared space can either just View or Edit the App

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/sense/June2019/Subsystems/AdministerQSEoK/Content/Sense_QMC/spaces.htm

Managed Spaces work more like the old QSCB. The App stays in the 'Private Space' or  'Shared Space'. Only a linked copy is transferred to the 'Managed Space'. I'm unsure though if one App can be copied to more than one Managed Sapce

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/cloud-services/Subsystems/Hub/Content/Sense_Hub/Spaces/working-in-manage...

"when should a Shared or Managed Space be used"

I'm unsure what the reason was for doing it this way (having both Shared and Managed Spaces). As opposed to just sharing App to individual Email addresses or Groups as required. With each user being assigned the appropriate rights. Say to View or Admin etc by users who can share content.

Hopefully Mike can explain the thinking behind using this method. As opposed to how it use to be (Direct sharing and 'Shared Spaces') .

Hello,

What are some strategies for moving to the cloud with Qlik Sense and accessing data from a on premise SQL Server or other on premise database.

I am sure many companies must have these issues.

Thank You,

Michael

Hi @mstoler

"accessing data from a on premise SQL Server"

For me it was easy enough. Although for Sage 200 the connection had to be changed to a fixed Port. But after done it has worked as it should since.

Another option is to use say Dropbox. For loading the likes of Excel files.
