Developer menu in Qlik Sense client

Did you know there's a secret developer menu in Qlik Sense? I'm going to let you in on the secret and show you how to access it and what it contains. Just remember, this isn't documented or officially supported, and is subject to change in the future.

To access the developer menu, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a sheet in a Qlik Sense app in your browser
  2. Add /options/developer to the url
  3. Right click on an object and choose "Developer"

You can get the object id, properties, and layout of any object this way. There's also a link to open the object in single configurator, and test exporting. The object id's are useful for embedding visualizations. The properties are useful if you are creating your own objects and want to check the properties of an object in a Qlik Sense app for reference. In my opinion this is the most useful feature of the developer menu. Sometimes if I don't know the correct properties to set to achieve what I want I'll create a similar object in the Qlik Sense client just to check the properties. The layout shows what is returned by the engine for the layout of the object, and can be useful to see what the layout will look like before you actually create an object yourself. And the single configurator link is a handy way to get to the single configurator of an object directly from a sheet.

And now you know about the secret developer menu.

Hmm, strange...that looks like a good url. This is an example from my June 2018 desktop that works for me, looks similar to yours.

http://localhost:4848/sense/app/C%3A%5CUsers%5Cfka%5CDocuments%5CQlik%5CSense%5CApps%5CHelpdesk%20Ma...

Try encoding the slashes: change / to %5c in the app filename. You could probably also give just the filename without the path.

Developer option won't appear for me too in Google Chrome.

When I tried in Microsoft Edge - it worked for me.  Developer option appeared

Note: I am using Qlik Sense June 2018 Version.

This /options/developer is not supported in older versions like QS 3.2

Make sure you are not in Edit mode, then remove the /Sate/Analysis from the end of the URL and replace it with Options/Developer and now the right click option of Developer will appear.

This is good. One can directly navigate from the page to developer mode. We will have to see what else is available in the 'Options'.

Looks really nice, but I'm not able to get this working, either on server or locally (currently on Feb '19 release). Anyone else facing this issue too?

@stevenkoppens Same here, recently upgraded to Feb 19 and this does not work (right click menu is different for objects).

I tested this a few weeks ago on June 18 version and it worked fine.

@Francis_Kabinoff any thoughts?

In the June '19 the embedding of objects is build in, so you no longer need this secret dev functionality.

Still works for me (tested June 2019)

Note that you can only use the /options/developer when you are not editing a sheet
